And yes... all the pictures did load backwards... not sure why!
...was started before we got married. Now we're Mr. and Mrs. and having fun living our lives as one.

Madison who, what???
Madison, Connecticut... a town I never thought of before about a month and a half ago. I had no reason to think about, even dream about Connecticut itself let alone the small town of Madison. This beautiful town sits on the Long Island Sound, about 2 hours North of New York City, sandwiched between Hartford and New Haven. It has a great downtown area filled with a cute bookstore, "Ashley's Best Ice Cream", a Maui Jim store, a movie theatre with only 2 screens, a couple art museums and galleries, and randomly... a business called McLaughlin Associates. Madison is a random, but cute little shore town.
Why do I care about Madison??? Oh... because Steve and I are moving there somewhere between July and September. WHY?!??!??! Trust me, I asked the same question a few times. Truth is, an offer was created and made that we could not resist. Come July/August/September (whenever we move) Steve and I will be the newest teachers at Grove School, a college preparatory therapeutic boarding school (see: mouth-full).
Believe you me... I was as confused as you are right now when I got an e-mail from the school for the first time. As it turns out, I have my resume posted on different teaching websites (doing the ol' job search) and the director from Grove School found it, read my resume, and then contacted me about the position. In talking with the director over the phone, I mentioned something about "my husband" and the director was even more excited about the possibility of us coming to Grove School. Apparently, the administration feels its a benefit to students to be around married couples for maturity and a different connection compared to singles. At that point the director asked us to come out for a visit and an interview which we set up for last Friday, March 27th.
So with a semi-free vacation ahead of us in Madison, we decided to attach on 2 days in Manhattan as well since neither of us had been to NYC before, and my cousin Andy and his wife Lindsey live there.
Last Thursday, we arrived in Madison in the rain and tried to tool around the town as much as possible. We drove to Grove to make sure we knew where to go the next day, drove through town looking for something to eat, and eventually, thanks to the GPS and Cha-Cha, (ask my husband if you're not sure what Cha-Cha is!) we found a little pub to hunker down in. It was obvious, as soon as we walked in, that the pub we found was full of regulars. The beep of the door had everyone turn our way to see who was walking in, only to turn around in confusion about who the random people were, especially the girl in the OSU Fleece. Leave it to me to find a way to stick out like a sore-thumb! At one point, I was the only female in the pub outside of the bartender and waitress, and every guy was completely fixed on the TV's showing the UConn game. Looks like these guys are as serious about UConn game as we are about OSU Football. After much needed food and refreshments we headed back to the hotel to get ready for interviews the next day.
Staying in the most random hotel ever (courtesy of Grove School) means Continental breakfast is a loose term! After breakfast we headed out to our interview, not knowing what to expect. We drove onto campus which looks more like a small community of homes then it does a school campus (think the Dharma/Others housing in LOST) and found the Director we were meeting with. We sat down - together interestingly enough - and began learning about the crazy school we ventured to. We took a tour of the campus, the school rooms, the wonderful art room, the dorms, and sat down for lunch with the rest of campus. We met more teachers than I could remember names for, students here and there, and got to tour/sit down with a girl named Naomi who teaches at Grove with her husband. Naomi and Jacob are finishing their second year as live-in teachers in the same positions Steve and I were looking at. We drilled Naomi with questions about what being a newly-married couple is really like there, toured the apartment she and Jacob have in a boys dorm, and spoke with her about being Christians in this school community. Talking with Naomi was a blessing to get a real perspective on how tough it is to work and live there with your significant other in the same position.
After a few hours at the school we left, knowing that we were calling the director back within a week to tell him whether or not we were interested. We walked around town, popped in shops here and there, drove the short trip to the beach to walk the boardwalk, and enjoyed taking ridiculous pictures of each other. And of course we tried out "Ashley's Best Ice Cream"! From then until Saturday evening, we did not stop talking about Grove School and what our feelings were. I was instantly overwhelmed with the prospect of the positions, and Steve was instantly sold! Come Sunday afternoon, after long discussion with each other, and a long phone call to my parents... we were pretty sold on Grove School outside of a few remaining questions.
Wednesday afternoon we called the director, he officially offered the positions, and we officially accepted. And we're moving! Crazy.... and I'm pretty sure it won't hit me until we're literally in the moving van driving across the NorthEast.
A little about Grove.... It is a school for students who have been identified as emotionally fragile or have behavioral issues. There are only 110 students, only 5 of which are day students. Students come mostly from the NorthEast states, but some also come from other states around the nation. Class sizes range from 6-10 students, with 1 head teacher and sometimes 1-2 aides.
Here's what our new jobs will entail, and the perks that go with...
-I will be teaching Art, with two teaching assistants, an UNLIMITED art budget, and a BEAUTIFUL art room.. CRAZY!
-Steve will be a teaching assistant in classrooms depending on where the need is based upon Students.
-We will be living in an apartment in a dorm, and if we live in a girl's dorm, Steve will have another small dorm/office in a guys dorm for work and dorm supervision and vise versa.
-Our housing and 3 meals a day are covered by the school (Score!)
-We will be on duty (dorm supervision) 2 days a week and every other weekend, and are encouraged to not be around other staff or students on our days off, but to take as many trips off campus and away from the city as possible!
-The whole school has 10 weeks off/year, 5-two week breaks (School is year round) in which students are required to leave campus.
-There are multiple trips throughout the year which staff supervise and some students attend. For instance... there were 3 ski trips this winter, a trip to the Caribbean for Spring Break, a trip to El Salvador in August, a sailing trip in July... etc.
-Currently there is no lacrosse team, but I will be doing my best to start one while there. Steve will hopefully find an activity to start with students as well (running... comic books... etc)
-They are willing to help with moving expenses to get us out there - Woot!!
-For Steve to finish his degree, and if either of us decides to get our masters in Education, they will pay half of our tuition as long as we get an A or a B.
-.....etc... I can't currently remember all the rest of the details.
In any case... this opportunity has God written all over it, and while we will be sad to leave friends and family for at least a 2-year commitment, we are excited, and hope that the paths between Madison and Ohio will be well traveled by friends and family. Please consider this your open invitation (yes we mean everyone!) and we'll see you in CT!
**Sorry this ended up so long... apparently I have a lot to say about this crazy adventure we're starting soon... **
I want to post pictures but am currently having trouble with the website...more to come later!

Okay, so its been a literal month since I posted last (Bear in mind I actually wrote this on March 19th and am just now posting it). And I figure I can't keep asking Steve to put up a new post without doing so myself.... So for now, I'll tell you (Mom? Who reads this anyway?!) a little about what's going on in our lives right now.
Currently, I am subbing at Kent High School (literally, I'm in class, students are watching "Gladiator" so I'm blogging. Sweet day!) and coaching lacrosse. Subbing isn't too bad, I just wish there was an easier system for getting jobs. That's the most frustrating part! Otherwise, its kind of fun. So far I really haven't had a super tough day. I had one day of teaching Integrated Math in which the last period of the day had some really frustrating personalities in it. Kids were fighting, throwing stuff out the window...etc. So that was an interesting end to a day. One of the best parts of subbing (When I'm at the high school) is getting to see lacrosse girls all day long. I've never gone a full day without having at least one of them in class, plus I get to see them through the hallways. Honestly, I think seeing lax girls all day is what makes subbing worth it half the time.
After subbing (or babysitting, whatever the case may be) I get to go play and coach lacrosse for 2 hours with the girls. This is my 5th year coaching, my 12th year straight with the sport (7 playing), and I'm not sure what I'll do the first season I don't have lacrosse! This years group of seniors is the closet any class has been since I've been coaching. They (as far as we know) don't have any drama between them, which makes for great spirit among the team. They are truthfully a joy to be around, and are high up on the list of the favorite parts of my day. The team as a whole is great, I can't say there are any girls we are worried about as far as attitudes go. i LOVE lacrosse! **The picture above is our Varsity Team from last year**
Outside of lax, subbing and babysitting here and there, I really am trying to get a job! I've had 7 interviews in the last week and a half, one of which was a second interview for a school. I can tell you I have the most excitement for Canton, Nordonia, National Heritage Academies, and Grove School (interview upcoming). Canton would be elementary, Nordonia currently is high school, may become a 5th/6th position, and National Heritage would be k-8. At the end of this month, Steve and I have an interview with Grove School in Madison, Connecticut (http://www.groveschool.org/). Did you catch that? Steve AND I have interviews!!! The director of the school found my resume on a teaching website and contacted me about the position. 1/3 of the job is Teaching, another 1/3 is developing and running activities for the students, and the last 1/3 is dorm supervision and informal counseling. Oh... its a private boarding school, and the position is LIVE-IN!!! Free room-and-board! WOOT! So when they found out I was married, the director was even more excited. He asked if Steve had interest in working with high school students, so I told him about how we used to lead Young Life together. He has heard of YL, he has heard of Steve's want to work with HS students again, and he wants to interview him too! Steve will be interviewing for everything but teaching. So who knows what's going to happen.... I take that back, God knows! The rest of us don't, and that's okay. Thanks to the interview we get a mini vacation. They're putting us up for a night in Connecticut (Thursday) we'll spend most of the day at the school Friday, and then we're heading to NYC for a night/day and spending it with my cousin and his wife who live in Manhattan. I'm pumped!!! I think Steve may be too :)
Well, the bell is about to ring, which means I should get my stuff packed up. I have to head to the middle school now for the last 2 periods before coming back to the high school for lacrosse. i"ll post a more exciting post sometime in the future about something. Maybe about the beautiful, ridiculous apartment complex we live in lol... more to come.
Love!
(Addendum... 2 days ago I was offered a job at Canton City Schools! WOOT! Waiting until after the Connecticut interview to accept or deny.)

Call me Mrs....
So I’ve been trying to figure out what I wanted to say in my first real update since being married. I know… we haven’t been married a month and I’m already over thinking my writing like my HUSBAND. (j/k baby!)
HUSBAND…. What a crazy, fun new thing to say. Its still unbelievable to me that I can say Steve is my husband, that he doesn’t have to go to his own home at the end of the night, and how natural all the transitions have felt. The morning after the wedding it already felt normal to wake up next to him. There are some moments I catch myself wondering if we’re missing something, or if we missed a step somewhere that would things feel abnormal! But then I thin about when Ted told us in pre-marital hang-out that we were doing all the work of being married with none of the rewards and I think I finally believe him! (I mean… I always believe you Ted!) Its truly been amazing to come home to Steve or have him come home to me to cook us dinner to decorate our apartment, to call everything “ours.”
Now while I saw everything has felt natural, it hasn’t come without a few surprises about this boy I live with! I won’t share about his dirty laundry (figuratively and literally) but there are some funny annoyances that I’ve realized come with getting married and moving in. And I’m sure Steve would say that his annoyances about me come from a) noticing his funny “boy traits” and 2) the amount of stuff I have (which is more compared to him, but not a lot compared to other people I know). One of the funniest moments of unpacking was finding a half empty box of Steve’s who’s contents included a watering can, a can of gravy, a slinky and one other ridiculous item. Ask Steve about it, he’ll tell you how it made sense in his brain. There are a few other things that Steve does that are out of my realm and so they make me crack up when they happen. For instance, when setting up the bathroom, I walked in to put something in the medicine cabinet and noticed a “pope on a rope” and “wash away your sins” bath kit had appeared as decorations. Whaaaat??!?!
And then there are the sweet things he does like rubbing my shoulders when I’ve been working on my computer for a bit, or jumping out of bed to turn the fan on when I’m already warm and snuggle, or buying me pepper spray to keep me safe when walking to and from out apartment by myself at night.
Whether we’re laughing at the “i love geeks” book, or crying because we’re laughing so hard at something stupid, or trying to hide from each other in our super tiny apartment when we’re having a stupid fight… I wouldn’t change it for the world. (And I hope Steve feels the same!)
We have loved and laughed more in the last 3.5 weeks than in maybe the last 3.5 years. I love being the Mrs. to Steve’s Mr.
Also… our wedding rocked ☺

So this was posted on Facebook... and probably anyone who reads this saw it on Facebook anyhow but I thought I'd throw it on here with everyone's comments included!
Because we just had an amazing wedding with our best friends and family, and then the most ridiculous, hilarious honeymoon ever.... we decided to do this note as a tribute to that rather than just ourselves. Love you all - Ashley McLaughlin :)
1. Groom and Best man showing up 1/2 hour late to the Rehearsal :)
2. Super chill rehearsal dinner consisting of Pizza, Pop and Beer in the hotel meeting room
3. My dad telling me to "Keep your nose down the barrel" when he gave me away during the ceremony. In our family, this is normal :)
4. "The Sinatra" - our classy shuttle/limo which took us to the church and then to the reception and held the whole wedding party.
4a. Our awesome friend Beau did a miniature "show" during the reception. It was supposed to be in a corner for the kids... instead it was on the dance floor for everyone!
4b. Christy Mitchell dancing the entire "Single Ladies" dance and captivating the dance floor!
5. Circle of the remaining 50 or so people at the end of the reception in a large circle swaying to "Piano Man", last song of the night
6. And then consistently started every morning after that a few hours later than expected.
7. Jeff Schuerman calling and texting us after we had gone to the hotel for the wedding night because he couldn't find a place to sleep.
8. Starting our honeymoon drive a few hours late because we hung out with some friends for a bit.
9. Stopping quickly to grab a few necessities and dinner, and ending up spending over 2 hours at an exit on the way to Tennessee
10. Somehow losing an hour between leaving OH and arriving at our cabin.
11. Steve thinking he was going to need to fight a guy at the Kentucky gas station we stopped at when he stood outside of our car. Then realizing that we were actually at a "full-service" gas station.
12. Garmin Nuvi freaking out near the end of Kentucky and then settling down once Steve held it. Apparently technology needs love too!
13. Our key code not working when we appeared at our cabin at 1:30am after not being able to find the dang rental office for a half hour.
14. Jeff Schuerman calling and texting while we were on our honeymoon to see if we know anything about his missing jacket, which was almost as cool as his jeans.
15. Kitschville, USA... Also known as Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: home of the world's largest "As Seen On TV" store, Dollywood and Giant Sharks which decorate the entrances to beach stores... You must walk through the mouth to enter.
16. "Chillin' Turtles" store in the Mountain Mall in Gatlinburg. Yep, its devoted to turtle lovers!
17. Randy, our air tram operator who refused to use "s's" in his 'peech!
18. Watching trials for the Special Olumpics in the Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area lodge. By this point, it didn't strike us as abnormal to do this.
19. Stopping at the embassy a few times to stay "grounded". Any by embassy, we of course mean Starbucks where they welcomed us with open arms. I think they could tell we were scared of Pigeon Forge.
20. Steve's consistency in pulling his clothes out of a laundry pile and leaving mine to find their own way to the suitcase.
21. The High Winds which kept us up half of our last night wondering if they were going to blow our cabin off the mountain. Also... we're from Ohio and know how to prepare for high winds... so we brought the patio furniture in from outside.
23. Having to stay in Florence, Kentucky on the way home because the roads were so bad... as my husband would say, "it was like driving through Planet Hoth."
24. Belting out "I love you, always forever, near and far, we'll stay together..." and "Killing me Softly" on the drive home.
25. Lowering sandwich and air drum sticks when passing a cop as if either of these is illegal when driving.
All in all... we rocked, and we want to do it all again. What are you all doing next January 24th? Wanna party?!

You two are ridiculous!!!!!!!!
Oh you forgot, the groom and best man, being an hour late to the rehearsal dinner, after being late to the rehearsal at the church... all because "the iPhone told them the wrong directions".... no one believes this. the iPhone is God's own best friend... we all know that.
What about the groom not having shoes to wear the day before the wedding :0) That was classic. he wanted to wear his dirty black boots that get dripped on by white mocah sauce and steamed milk at starbucks daily...
YES!!! Addendum, addendum! Those all rock!
Chubakka dying in the bathroom sink...
i cant get over the text on your wedding night!! #7 from jeff... hahahaha!!!
Sounds like you two are in love...that good cuz it was your honeymoon! Can't wait to see you both!
1) we didn't get lost, the iPhone directed us towards a church that had the verse I used to propose, hence it is God's best friend
2) I never get white mocha sauce on those boots, and I was planning on cleaning them
3)The best man going into the bathroom Saturday morning and shouting "what the hell, did a wookie die in here last night?" after I shaved my beard was quite amazing.

A text/phone call from a friend is a right of passage on a wedding night! ;) Glad you made it home safe- it sounds like the trip was hilarious!
--Ok, so I did call on the wedding night. Here's the thing....I don't remember calling (go figure that, vodka/grapefruit all night) yay, my phone history show's no call being made, and it's Verizon, come on, all my people around me, they don't lie!!!
--Well Steve's Hollies of Holy iPhnoe told the truth.......I herd the msg of myself......OMG your all right, train-reck.
--So what did I learn? That on my wedding night i'll be getting phone calls and txt's from Steve and Ashley. I deserve it.....Hey, you guys find the sweet Jacket & scarf yet, and no it's not next to my cool jeans :)

sweet, I made the the list.
I would like to add the beer wall that is STILL in my apartment. I'm just saying that someone MIGHT have had some vodka with their Sprite during 24 on Monday.
I would also, in rememberance of Meggie and I's sore calves, like to add "dancing" with the 5-year-old...seriously...2 days...
I would ALSO like to add the delivering of your wedding gifts in 1.3 feet of snow. Yeah, we chose that day.

Beer wall? Beer wall? Is this Cuyahoga Falls, no it's Heaven. Can someone explain why there is a beer wall and we haven't been invited to partake in an adult beverage of our choice? Dad and Mom D.

I'll admit...
I kind of stink at blogging! Even the pink post-it on the corner of my computer which initially held so much promise has failed to keep me motivated to blog. So... Truth is, right now is hard. Everything is in transition in my life and our lives. Every decision seemingly rides on another one. And every time we have another small argument I look for our break around the corner. Steve is much better at trusting God and living in the moment than I am. I can live in the moment once I know the next moment is planned! Okay, not really the same thing...
However! (because anytime there is a frustrating point there much be a however) we have certainly gotten much better at voicing concerns and bringing up stepped on toes in a manner that suits the other person. And right now, seeing God do that in us, has to be and is more than enough.
Random thought for the day... Make sure you remember to be thankful for simple things that make you happy. For instance a few of mine would be: -Film and digital cameras
-Chocolate Milk
-"right now" by Akon' awesome beat
-Laughing all the way to and from Toledo with Stace
-Steve's ability to grow and rock an awesome beard
-God's enormity (this ones not so simple, but it fits)
-oh, and getting married to Steve in 15 days.
Love.
